Sodexo Case Study – Module 2

   1.     I think prospective employees would find Sodexo’s content engaging for several reasons, including:
a.     It’s aimed directly at the “potential employee” audience.
                                               i.     Much of what I saw on the Sodexo blog was something that could help a prospective employee sharpen their interview skills, make a good impression, or cinch that new job – these are all tips every good job seeker looks for when applying for any job.
b.     It’s “Connected”
                                               i.     Using social media and blogs to deliver this information really demonstrates a company that is connected with its customers, employees, and future prospects. What better way to get a sense of your potential recruits than having a direct, (essentially unfiltered) line to them?
c.       It’s delivered in an engaging way.
                                               i.     When you think about all of the ways Sodexo could have disseminated their message, (message boards, Monster, the newspaper) you see why they chose social media – it’s engaging by nature. By delivering the content through “new media,” Sodexo is opening up a stream of consistent, direct feedback and interpretation, constantly engaging their clients, customers, and employees.
   2.     Sodexo is reaching their target audiences through several social mediums, including:
a.     A Sodexo Blog
                                               i.     This blog contained all sorts of useful information for potential employees, while also pushing the “merits” of working for Sodexo. Here’s a particular post that I thought was an excellent example:  http://www.sodexocareersblog.com/2012/09/is-texting-interview-thank-you-note.html
1.     Personally, I couldn't imagine “thanking” someone for an interview via text – and I think I made the right call. J
b.     A Sodexo Twitter Feed
                                               i.     The Twitter feed allows Sodexo to recruit directly, and engage prospective employees as such. It also promotes a feeling of engagement since they push things like photos and special employee events through the feed.
c.      A Sodexo Facebook page
                                               i.     The Facebook page is similar to the Twitter feed in that it allows Sodexo to engage prospective employees in a direct, mostly unfiltered manner.
   3.     Sodexo can measure the effectiveness of these efforts in several ways, including:
a.     Utilizing analytics tools.
b.     Monitoring increases/decreases in traffic along each of the entities.
c.      Comparing the recruiting metrics pre-social-media to the metrics attained post-social-media.

    1. Thanks Venita!

Social media and the web are definitely changing the face of the way companies like Sodexo shape their image and recruit new talent. I can't wait to see what comes along next! ;-)

  2. Would you ever be influenced by whether a company used social media? Why or why not?

    1. I think that a company that can find unique and engaging ways to leverage social media should do so -- after all, it's another marketing/revenue stream.

However, if you don't understand the technology or are unable to leverage it in ways that benefit your company as a whole, you probably are better off without it.

Personally, I don't mind if a company abstains from using social media -- if Im aware of the company and their products, they did a fine job marketing to me without it. :-)

  3. Professor Worsham: I know employers that will not hire a candidate if they do not have a Linked In account. Many employers think that if you do not have Linked In, you are either lying about your abilities or have something to hide. Ever since I heard that, I now do not trust an organization that is not actively involved in social media. An organization in today's world not doing social media, in my mind, means that they are not in touch with the way business is currently conducted. The company is likely out of touch, and i have no desire to find myself sitting behind a typewriter answering a rotary phone.

    1. Nice answer -- if employers expect potential employees to use social media, then they should use it too.
